I-Series Storage Racks
Interchangeable with Interlake, LMT, Husky, Andersen, Steel King and Many Others
|
|
|
This rack is designed to interchange with most of the teardrop designs on the market today. The components are constructed of high grade steel with 2" vertical adjustment step beam design. Accommodates crossbars, wood stringers or wire decking. Removable safety load clips are attached to each end of the beam. Colors: Frames - Vista Green; Beams - Orange.
NOTE: Upright frame capacities are based on 42" maximum vertical beam spacing. |
|
How to Select Pallet Rack:
- Frame Capacity: Add total weight of all pallets for each bay (exclude pallets on floor).
- Height: Measure all verticals including height of pallet, pallet load and beam height. Add 4" clearance between top of load and bottom of beam above. Top beam should be a minimum of 6" less than maximum lifting height of your forklift.
|
-
Depth: Pallet should overhang frame by 3" front and back. (48" pallet, use 42" deep frame) Deduct 6" from pallet depth. Pallets need to be in good condition.
-
Width: Measure width of pallet. Add a minimum of 3" for pallet-to-frame clearance and 4" between pallets to determine correct beam length. Each pair of beams must support weight of pallets per level. Add-on sections require only one additional frame and required number of beams.

Beams
|
|
3", 4", 4 1/2", 5" and 6" High by various lengths and capacities. Our beams feature a removable clip.
|
|
|
The shaved rivet allows for interchangeability with both tear drop styles of uprights. Their double overlap beam design allows for greater beam capacity.
|
|
How to order Pallet Racking.
Beam Length: Shelf length equals the distance between uprights. It is determined by adding the widths of pallet loads plus a 5" side clearance between upright and pallet and 6" between pallet loads. Shelf beam capacities are based on a pair of beams supporting an evenly distributed load.
Rack Height: Add the following figures:
+ Height of pallet loads (Including pallet).
+ Height of shelf beam.
+ 4" minimum vertical clearance for each pallet load.
__________________________________________
Sum of above dimensions = Rack height
For uppermost load level, location of shelf beam should be 6" less than fork truck's maximum lift height. |
Most racks made will do the job if properly applied, the real difference is who do you buy from. Material Flows people have decades of experience, call us today 1-800-338-1382. Remember there is a reason for all the different storage systems. We can help with the following systems:
- Cantilever Racking
- Pick Modules
- Case Flow Rack
- Push Back Racks
- Drive-In Rack
- Shelving
- Mezzanines
- Pallet Flow Systems

Starter Bay - Consists of two uprights and number of beams desired. (Minimum 4) Shown here is a typical 48" deep x 40" wide pallet. |

|
Things to Think About When Purchasing Racking:
- Responsibility between lift truck and rack system. Who will take it?
- Is there enough aisle spacing to operate the truck? Pallet rack is one thing; drive-in rack requires another aisle spacing. Pushback and pallet flow rack take up to 1' 6" more aisle space than pallet rack. Because the truck must go straight in and out of the system, the operator can't begin to turn into the load before being straight in front of it.
- 95% of all rack collapses are due to operator error. Abuse is just like a car. Sometimes it is driven off the lot and totaled within one day, sometimes the car never gets into a wreck.
- Know your loads by weight. Don't guess. Overloading can be a real problem.
- Be honest about your operators. If you already have rack abuse you will continue to have it. Ways to change this pattern: A) additional training, B) wider aisles, C) cutting cross aisle traffic down.
- Design from the inside out, not the other way around.
- Look at your competitors' facilities. Not all companies are the same.
- Anybody can sell rack. New or used. But what do you get? Is it the right height, depth or type?
- Don't buy a piece of lift equipment before you buy your rack system. Remember lift truck houses sell lift trucks because that is what they are supposed to do, just like a car dealer.
- Everybody wants their product like Burger King. They are in such a rush to get it off their desk that they many times make a mistake. For some reason there always seems to be enough time to get it corrected but not enough time to do it right in the first place. Remember to allow enough time to plan, don't rush.
- When should you replace a rack? A) Broken welds on upright, B) Beams creased or bowed in, C) Column off of footplate.
- A pallet should overhang a beam by 3" front and back in order for the stated capacity to be valid, otherwise the capacity has to be down-rated.
